Sachin had his consultation visit at Memorial Sloan Kettering hospital yesterday, which is one of the world’s top cancer care facilities. They took another biopsy for confirmation, and if that shows the same thing the plan will be: 1) place a port in the chest which is a permanent IV line that stays in place. 2) Chemotherapy (FolFox) through the port every two weeks for three months. 3) Surgery to remove part of the colon with the tumor and part of the liver with tumors and place a pump into the hepatic artery in the liver. 4) One month recovery from surgery. 5) Six more months of chemotherapy alternating port chemotherapy vs liver pump chemotherapy. The doctors at Sloan Kettering (or MSK for short) were cautiously positive and said they have taken care of many patients with Sachin’s cancer and have even had cures! The other good news is that the chemotherapy itself is not terribly harsh. Next step is a formal meeting with the oncologist next Tuesday to get definitive dates and start times.
